The PCAN-USB FD connects CAN and CAN FD networks to a computer over High-speed USB 2.0. It supports CAN 2.0A/B and CAN FD (ISO and non-ISO, switchable) with nominal bit rates from 25 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s and data-field bit rates up to 12 Mbit/s. It offers galvanic isolation up to 500 V, 1 µs time stamps, bus load measurement and switchable termination. Power comes from the USB port, and the compact plastic housing suits mobile use. PCAN-View and the PCAN-Basic programming interface are included. This is a general-purpose CAN FD interface, not a ready-made vehicle diagnostic tool. OEM diagnostic software and licences are not included.

The adapter connects a PC to any CAN or CAN FD network through a D-Sub 9 connector (CiA 106); a vehicle needs a suitable cable or adapter. Included: PCAN-View (CAN monitor, Windows), PCAN-Basic API and APIs for automotive protocols. Brand-specific diagnostic functions (coding, resets, service functions) are not included and depend on third-party software.
